it came in an envelope

Lord help me. It has arrived.

It. That thing. That 1,235-page book I ordered from Amazon not too long ago. In other words, The Covenant by James A. Michener. For our purposes, lets just call it "The Brick"... for surely if you gathered up enough copies of this novel, you could easily build a pretty decent structure of some sort.

The Brick is a book I am required to read and write a response paper to this summer to prepare for South Africa. Though its size is obviously daunting, I have heard that this book actually isn't a bad read. I guess we'll see about that soon enough! I have yet to start it, but I've already resolved in my head that this is not something I am going to put off until the last minute; baby steps seems like a much better approach to this task.

As far as other items on my to-do list, I get to check one off... I unpacked all my school stuff yesterday! I guess that might seem like a trivial thing, but considering it took me two days to psych myself up to do it and twelve hours to complete I think it deserves at least some recognition, yeah? Maybe just a little? Granted, I still have a pile of stuff I need to haul up to the attic, but the fact that I can chill on my bed without being surrounded by boxes and duffel bags gives me a pretty healthy dose of satisfaction. I even alphabetized my books and folded my underwear! OK, uh, maybe that's something I shouldn't admit so freely... moving on...

My plan of action for today includes cleaning, putting the aforementioned attic stuff into said attic, and hey, I might even read a little of the good ol' Brick. Oh, and at some point I'm going to have to get on top of the whole summer job thing. Should be simple enough... I essentially just need to put up some rad flyers that say something to the effect of "I'm an awesome babysitter looking for work - hire me!" Gotta get started on saving up some spending money for the big trip! And really, is there a better job than getting paid to play with kids? I think not.

So now that I've unpacked, I can start packing for South Africa, right? I'm kidding, of course. Kind of.

Countdown to take-off: 103 days
